We are delighted to announce that at the recent North Dorset Rugby Football Club Minis presentations, Tom C and Owain N of Owl Class were presented with awards for the 2013 – 2014 season.

Tom was awarded Under 7’s Player of the Year and Owain Under 7’s Player of the Tour. Both boys started playing with North Dorset RFC in September 2013 and have thoroughly enjoyed the sport and sportsmanship throughout the season.
David Mounde, U7 Coach, said Tom and Owain had been amazing team players for the Under 7’s at North Dorset RFC.
“During the year they have played most weekends in rain and sun. They have travelled to many clubs in Dorset, Wiltshire and Somerset and participated in a rugby tour too. They have shown a huge amount of dedication and enthusiasm for all the coaching. It has not only been about rugby as we have played tig, stick in the mud, shuttles and on the last day of the season Australian rules football! Tom won Player of the Year for his outstanding commitment to continually improve week in and week out. He has shown himself to be an outstandingly quick runner and decisive thinker. I have no doubt he will be an amazing winger in years to come. Owain won Player of the Tour. He has the heart of lion and the courage of a tiger. He was relentless in his pursuit of the tags and tenacious in his determination to score tries. He is a flanker of the future with great natural ability. Both are outstanding adverts for Wyke Primary School. They are confident, charming and focused players who live the spirit of sport.”
Minis rugby is a fantastic and fun game for six to eleven year olds. North Dorset RFC has a thriving Minis section, with over 150 children charging around the Slaughtergate fields on the outskirts of Gillingham on a Sunday morning. The Minis section introduces contact rugby through the age groups, and maintains the emphasis on fun. Players can start at five years old, and can play for the club in matches against other clubs after their sixth birthday.
Our congratulations to both boys!
